Who's Raising Your Meat?

There are not many more intimate acts than eating. We've all heard the expression "you are what you eat" but these days most folks put more thought into their next smart phone than they do into what goes into their body. We like to take this expression one step further and remind folks that you are what what you eat eats. That being the case, do you really want to leave something as important as your food up to a big corporation who's first responsibility is to it's shareholders? The people who feed you should be some of the most important relationships in your life. You know your doctor, your lawyer and your accountant and we want you to know your farmers too.

We got some nice press this week around the funding we received through the BC Buy Local program but I have to admit to having mixed feelings about certification programs/labels/marketing campaigns that focus on a word... like "humane,""local" and "organic." Don't get me wrong, I'm generally a big fan of these words but I worry that when people see them on a label, they too often stop asking questions.

Spring Piglets at the Nicola Valley Ranch

This is such a great time of year for farrowing (the term for a sow giving birth to piglets). We had two litters born this past week at the Nicola Valley ranch with lots more coming. We'll be moving some of the ones born last month to the Burnaby farm by the May long weekend and can't wait for you to meet them!
